The best thing about this recipe is that it can be ready in less than 5 minutes, with just a few ingredients, most of which you’re likely to have around the house.
Healthy
Not only is this a delicious appetizer, but it’s also healthy too, as the main ingredient, baked beans are high in fiber and protein and low in fat and calories. It also makes up 1 of your 5 a day!
Gluten-Free

Ingredients

Baked Beans
Baked beans are the main ingredient in this recipe, and we are using a standard can of Heinz Baked Beans, which is around 415 grams or 14oz. Although if you want to be even healthier, you could use the reduced sugar version.
Chickpeas are usually the main ingredient when it comes to traditional hummus, it’s part of the legume plant family. However, you can make hummus using any legume, which often includes beans such as cannellini, black beans, kidney beans, or in this instance baked beans. I absolutely love tomatoes, so what I like about this recipe is that the beans have already been sitting in a tasty tomatoey sauce.
Garlic
For this dip, we’ve used two garlic cloves to add some depth and flavor to our hummus and to really liven up the dish.
Olive Oil
A dash of olive oil of around two tablespoons helps to create that creamy texture that we all know and love hummus for.
Apple Cider Vinegar (or regular vinegar)
We’ve added a tiny bit of apple cider vinegar to this recipe, using about 1 tablespoon, just to help bring out the flavor of the dip a little more, however if you don’t have any, you can always substitute it for regular vinegar.
Seasoning
When it comes to seasoning we’ve added in a teaspoon of paprika, a tablespoon of cumin, and a little bit of salt and chilli flakes. These ingredients are all optional, but we’d definitely recommend adding them, obviously everyone’s tastes vary, but you wouldn’t want your hummus to be bland.
Hummus Serving Suggestions
You can choose to serve up your hummus however you like, some ideas include pita, tortilla chips, crackers, celery, carrots and cucumber. You could even serve it with toast to create a posh version of baked beans on toast!
Equipment

Colander or Strainer – you’ll need a colander or strainer to remove the liquid from the baked beans.
Two bowls — two bowls will be required, one to capture the liquid when we strain the baked beans, and another to serve the hummus dip.
Blender – this will be needed to blend all our ingredients together to create our delicious dip.
Spoon or spatula — to remove the contents of the mixture from the blender
